Julius Caesar
Looking at the photographs above, you wouldn’t guess that this was a production of William Shakespeare’s “Julius Caesar,” but it was. Director Angelina LaBarre decided to eschew any real major costuming, props, and set design, and instead produced a sleek and stylish version of Caesar. The focus here was story, using Shakespeare’s original, unaltered dialog. Not to say there weren’t any visually spectacular moments; one of the highlights was Caesar’s elaborately staged, and gruesomely bloody, murder. I’m hoping that historical tidbit is common knowledge and I didn’t spoil anything for you. If I did–sorry!
This show was at the Fetterly Playhouse in Vallejo and done in-the-round. It made things a little bit harder for me since I had 360 degrees to cover, and I was also given a theme park-style disclaimer that there was going to be blood spattered in a large area during a stage combat scene.
